Why Get a Dash Cam

WHY WE NEED
A DASH CAM

Use DASH CAM to furnish evidence in the event of accident

The roads are never as safe as you’d like them to be. In 2010, there were over 1.25 million traffic collision deaths in the world which equates to one person being killed every 25 seconds from car related accidents. Even if you take all the precautions for safe driving, there is always a chance of you getting involved in a motor vehicle accident. In the event of an accident, it is often difficult for drivers to recall the crucial details surrounding the accident due to the shock and stress caused by the event. A DASH CAM plays a critical role of a reliable witness to protect the disturbed driver from a possibility of unjustified liability. With an in-car dashboard camera, you can rest assured that you have a dependable, silent companion with you at all times on your journey.

Store car operation record using GPS

With GPS, DASH CAM records your driving history including the speed and identifies the precise location and routes of your vehicle on a map. It also provides the speed and direction of the vehicle at the moment of a collision as well as the direction and severity of the collision for a clear and accurate assessment of the event. You can also trace and review the saved journeys that your car has been on driven by anyone behind the wheel. Based on this information, you can provide the driver with tips on driving and better route choices.

* The above-mentioned features are only available for selected models with a built-in GPS
or when using the optional GPS accessory sold separately.
Capture every single moment in HD quality

In this age of gadget overload, the last thing you would want is to worry about turning on yet another electrical device in your car. The DASH CAM automatically powers on and begins its video recording upon starting the ignition of your car, ensuring all crucial details will be captured in the event of an incident. The DASH CAM also comes with a Format-Free function, allowing unused memory space to be overwritten automatically if the memory card gets full. In the case when an impact is registered, the camera is designed to store the surrounding 20 seconds of the event into a flash drive, allowing the driver to review the footage at a later time.

Save beautiful moments forever

Don’t underestimate the mundane – roads often offer their own little surprises to share. With a built-in manual recording mode and still-image capture, your DASH CAM is always ready to preserve the extraordinary moments of your journey. Be it a spectacular herd of wild buffalos or perhaps a comet flying across the night sky, you will always be sure to have that magical moment captured with the DASH CAM.

WHAT IS A DASH CAM?

WHAT IS A DASH CAM?

An Extra Eye on the Road.

A dashboard camera (Dash Cam) is a specialized on-board surveillance camera that is designed to monitor and record driving incidents. Mounted to the windshield, the camera turns on automatically upon starting the ignition, and actively records video footages with an auto-looping mechanism. It has the real-time impact detection which allows the camera to store the incident footage in secure location, whereupon sensing an impact. The footages can be reviewed later and be used as supplementary evidence for insurance purposes to protect the driver against insurance frauds or hit-and-runs.

Other Questions You May Have:

  • 1) Automatic Power On/Off with Auto-Looping Capabilities.

While an action cam can provide high-quality videos, it does not turn on and off automatically, requiring the driver to switch on the device before starting the commute. Action cams often do not have auto-looping (Format-free) functions – once the memory card is full, it stops recording.
THINKWARE DASH CAM automatically powers up when the vehicle gets started so the driver does not have to be concerned with turning on the device. In addition, there is no need to worry about memory storage when you have DASH CAM’s auto-looping (Format-free) technology. Non-incident footages will be overwritten automatically to secure the memory space within the device for continuous recording.

    2) Impact Detection

Action cams often lack essential components such as 3-axis G-Sensor to detect sudden impact. Therefore, many action cams cannot isolate the video footage of an event occurred for viewing purposes nor detect hit-and-run incidents while the vehicle is parked.
The THINKWARE DASH CAM isolates and stores footages automatically in the event of an incident using the built-in 3-axis G-Sensor to register impact. Consequently, all important evidence of crucial moments will be saved without failure.

    3) Safety and Assurance

Conventional action cams come with standard rechargeable batteries which have limited operating time. The rechargeable batteries inside these devices can overheat and become volatile under extreme heat which the affects the performance of the device.
DASH CAMs are plugged into the power outlet inside your vehicle with no need for a rechargeable battery. THINKWARE DASH CAMs also utilize Super Capacitors designed to withstand harsh conditions inside a vehicle while eliminating the risks of heat related battery failures. Even if the power gets disconnected in the event of an accident, the Super Capacitor allows the videos to be safely stored. With this technology, our DASH CAMs provide a steady and dependable performance throughout a class-leading range of operating temperatures and storage.

    4) GPS Tracking (for selected models with built-in GPS antenna or optional GPS accessory)

In the event of a collision, it is important to collect as much information as possible to use as evidence. All THINKWARE DASH CAMs can be connected to a GPS antenna, and selected models have a built-in GPS antenna to identify the time, speed and location of your driving at the time of the incident. THINKWARE DASH CAMs will take care of recalling the specifics of critical moments so you can feel rest assured during your driving journey.

    5) Rearview Recording Capability (Optional)

Some drivers may require further assurance while they are on the road. All THINKWARE DASH CAMs can be paired with an optional rearview camera designed to deliver equally high standard of video quality and durability for a complete surveillance and worry-free drive.

    6) Out of Sight, Out of Mind

An action cam requires remounting every time the driver gets into the car and manual deletion of unwanted videos to secure memory space. In addition, it is prone to unstable battery performance while often being subject to theft. More importantly, it could become projectile objects in a crash causing potentially fatal injuries to occupants.
A good dash cam should be a device that the driver can depend on without the hassles and worries. Our THINKWARE DASH CAM is easy to install, highly autonomous, safe, durable, and discreet – all you need to do is simply get in your car and drive.

  • For the same reason why you should not use conventional action cameras as dash cams – they are unreliable and distracting. Smartphone’s dash cam apps often stop recording whenever you receive a call or a text on your phone – if an accident occurs while you are answering a call, no footages will be recorded.

  • Most dashboard cameras employ a bulky plastic suction mount which induces vibration in the video while also impeding the driver’s view of the road. The suction may get hardened after its extended use – potentially endangering occupants in the vehicle if the device falls off the windshield in a crash. THINKWARE DASH CAM uses a 3M adhesive tape mount which is discreet and stable, ensuring that the device stays on the windshield even after a violent impact. The tape mount also eliminates the video vibration by minimizing the gap between the camera and the windshield while firmly securing the DASH CAM in its spot. Click here for a demonstration of the comparisons between a 3M tape mount and a suction cup mount.

  • Most dash cams on the market do not support parking surveillance mode, as they are not designed to withstand the extreme temperatures in a parked car especially in the summer. Extreme temperatures can cause the conventional Lithium batteries inside the device to overheat and become unstable with reduced performance. In severe cases, the batteries can become volatile causing a potential damage to your vehicle.
THINKWARE DASH CAM utilizes a Super Capacitor that is designed to withstand harsh conditions inside a vehicle, and support parking surveillance mode while eliminating the risks of heat related battery failures. Even if the power gets disconnected in the event of an accident, the Super Capacitor allows the safe storage of recorded videos. With this technology, THINKWARE DASH CAMs provide a steady and dependable performance throughout a class-leading range of operating temperatures and storage.
